The launch of the large-scale UNDP Country Program for Turkmenistan for 2026–2030 and the preparation of the third Voluntary National Review on the implementation of the SDGs were the main topics of the meeting held in New York on May 28 between Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the UN Under-Secretary-General and Administrator of the UN Development Programme, Alexander de Croo.
The parties noted that the new five-year planning document serves as a crucial tool for supporting the reforms being implemented in our country, aimed at accelerating the implementation of digital solutions in all spheres of life, ensuring sustainable economic growth, advancing the climate agenda, and thoroughly modernizing social infrastructure. Particular emphasis was placed during the conversation on the high level of readiness of project portfolios in the areas of digitalization of public services, strengthening institutional capacity, and dramatically improving the efficiency of administrative procedures.
The diplomats highlighted healthcare as a key area of cooperation, where the parties outlined new steps to procure high-quality medicines and medical equipment, strengthen the sustainability of the national healthcare system, and modernize the relevant industry.

Equally important in the negotiations were issues of social inclusion, promoting gender equality, and empowering youth in the context of the consistent integration of the 2030 Global Agenda into Turkmenistan's national strategies.
In the environmental section, Alexander de Croo and Rashid Meredov highlighted the high potential for advancing the Ashgabat initiative to establish a Regional Climate Technology Center for Central Asian countries.
Furthermore, in the context of Turkmenistan's proposal to declare 2028 the Year of International Law, the parties expressed their willingness to expand cooperation on the rule of law and effective public administration, reaffirming their mutual commitment to the comprehensive implementation of the ambitious programs outlined.
