 International Conference “Peace, Sustainable Development, and Migration” Held in Ashgabat

The international conference “Peace, Sustainable Development, and Migration” took place at the Yyldyz hotel in the capital city. The event brought together experts from Central Asian countries, representatives of the United Nations, international organizations, and media. Some participants joined remotely via video link.

A representative of Turkmenistan’s State Migration Service noted that, at Turkmenistan’s initiative, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution declaring 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust, co-sponsored by 86 countries.

The agenda included topics such as the digitalization of migration processes, identity verification, the impact of environmental legislation on migration, combating statelessness, and strengthening regional cooperation. Special attention was given to Turkmenistan’s efforts in joining key UN conventions and incorporating their provisions into national legislation.

The conference also highlighted the ministerial meeting on statelessness held in Ashgabat in November 2024. Participants discussed the implementation of modern technologies and improving the quality of migration services through digital solutions.

The event confirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to a humanitarian approach in migration policy and its active role in the international dialogue.
