An Exhibition Dedicated to the History of Turkmenistan to Open in Rome

An exhibition devoted to the rich historical heritage of Turkmenistan will open at the Capitoline Museums in Rome on October 24, 2025. It is titled “Flourishing in Turkmenistan: Margiana of the Bronze Age and the Parthian Kingdom.”

The event is jointly organized by Roma Capitale, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali, the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, as well as the Italian institutions ISMEO (International Association for Mediterranean and Oriental Studies) and CRAST (Turin Centre for Archaeological Research and Excavations in the Middle East and Asia).

The main part of the exhibition will be dedicated to the civilization of Margiana, which existed on the territory of present-day Turkmenistan in the 5th–3rd centuries BC. In addition, an exposition about the Parthian Kingdom, a state that occupied vast lands southeast of the Caspian Sea, including modern Turkmenistan, will also be presented.

The organization of this exhibition became possible thanks to two agreements concluded in May 2025 by the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan with the Italian institutions ISMEO and CRAST. The event will allow visitors to discover the ancient civilizations that contributed to the formation of Turkmenistan’s history and culture.
