Turkmenistan Develops Renewable Energy and “Smart” Oil and Gas Technologies
16.09.2025 | 11:05 |The country is actively implementing projects in the field of renewable energy and modernizing the oil and gas sector using digital and automated technologies.
Solar panels and wind turbines are increasingly being used in remote villages and pastoral farms, providing electricity for lighting, pumps, and household appliances. The possibility of local panel production with foreign investment is being considered, which would reduce dependence on imports, primarily from Asia.
In the oil and gas sector, “smart” wells and “digital” fields are being implemented, helping to increase production and reduce costs. According to experts, the use of innovative systems can reduce operational expenses by up to 20 percent.
Recently, a new academic building was opened at the State Energy Institute, equipped with 132 kW solar panels and a 30 kW wind installation. The facility will train specialists in solar, wind, and bioenergy, as well as in robotics and artificial intelligence.
Turkmenistan has also signed cooperation agreements with the Technical University of Clausthal and Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany) to advance scientific research in the energy sector.
The modernization program is aimed at conserving natural resources, improving the ecological situation, and strengthening the country’s energy security.
