Ashgabat, February 6 | ORIENT. The transport and communications sector has become one of the main drivers of the national economy, as confirmed by figures for January 2026. The overall growth rate of services rendered in the sector was an impressive 113.3%, demonstrating the revitalization of both domestic and international routes.

Turkmenistan is actively gaining momentum and speed. The main growth in January was driven by two key areas: road transport (services grew by 20.9%) and civil aviation (by 19.8%).

Other links in the logistics network are also showing stable growth. Rail transport grew by 6.7%, remaining the backbone of bulk cargo transportation. Communications and digitalization showed growth of 13%, confirming the focus on creating smart infrastructure and improving the quality of internet services.

Cargo turnover nationwide increased by 1.4%, while passenger traffic increased by 3.4%, indicating increased mobility for both the population and businesses.

Summarizing Mammetkhan Chakyev's report at the Cabinet meeting on Friday, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the main goal is to transform Turkmenistan into the most efficient transit hub. The head of state instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to focus on increasing transit cargo volumes and further improving the quality of communications services for the population.
