At the beginning of the week, weather conditions in Turkmenistan were influenced by an Arctic air mass that arrived with an anticyclone. As a result, average daily temperatures in several regions fell below the climatic norm.

On Tuesday, March 10, subzero temperatures were observed not only at night but also during the daytime in the Dashoguz region, as well as in the northern parts of the Ahal, Lebap, and Balkan regions.

During the night from March 9 to March 10, the coldest weather was recorded in the northern part of the country. In the Dashoguz region, air temperatures dropped to -7…-12°, in the northern Balkan region to -5…-10°, and in the northern Ahal region to about -6°.

In the rest of the Balkan region, temperatures ranged from -2…+3°, in the south up to +5°, while in other regions they were around 0…+5°, and about 0° in Ashgabat.

During the daytime on Tuesday, temperatures in the Dashoguz region ranged from 0…-5°, around 0° in the northern parts of the Balkan and Ahal regions, and -2…+3° in the northern Lebap region.

In the rest of the Balkan region, the air warmed to +2…+7°, reaching up to +10° in the south. In the Ahal region, temperatures were +2…+7°, locally up to +8°, while in the Mary and Lebap regions they ranged from +3…+8°. In some places in the Ahal, Mary, and Lebap regions, precipitation in the form of rain mixed with snow was observed.

On Wednesday night, subzero temperatures were again recorded across the country. In the Dashoguz region they ranged from -4…-9°, in the Balkan region from -2…-7°, locally down to -9°, in the Ahal region from -1…-6°, and down to -8° in the north. In the Mary region temperatures ranged from -1…-6°. In the Lebap region, temperatures varied from -5…-10° in the north to -4…+1° in the south.

During the daytime on Wednesday, temperatures increased: to 0…+5° in the Dashoguz region, +4…+9° in the Balkan region (up to +10° in the south), and +2…+7° in the Ahal and Mary regions. In the Lebap region, temperatures ranged from 0…+5° in the north to +5…+10° in the south.

According to meteorologists’ forecasts, negative temperatures will also persist during the night on Thursday across most of Turkmenistan.

The prevailing values will range from -2…-7°, while in the far southwest and southeast of the country temperatures are expected to be around -2…+3°. During the daytime, temperatures in most regions will rise to +6…+11°.
