The Turkmenistan Chess Federation announces the Turkmenistan Team Chess Championship, which will take place from March 22 to 28. This is a significant event in the history of national chess: a tournament of this kind is being held for the first time in several decades.
About the Tournament
The competition aims to popularize the team format of the game and attract a wide range of organizations and companies to the chess movement. The championship is open not only to professional players; the Federation invites all chess enthusiasts to participate in this unique tournament and test their strength against the country's strongest players.
Following the championship, the winning team will earn the right to represent Turkmenistan internationally, at the World and Asian Team Championships.
In addition, a special nomination, "Best Team in the Private Sector," will recognize the strongest team among companies and private organizations.
The Turkmenistan Chess Federation plans to make this tournament an annual event in order to systematically develop team chess and expand the circle of participants.
Regulations and Team Composition
Time control: 90 minutes for each player until the end of the game, with a 30-second increment per move, starting from the first move.
Team composition: • 6 main players: boards 1–4 — open (any player), board 5 — women's, board 6 — player aged 20 and under (born in 2006 or later); • 1 captain (not a player); • up to 3 reserve players.
Important: The team may include "foreign players" — any players, including those not directly affiliated with the organization submitting the team.
Point system: win — 2 points, draw — 1 point, loss — 0 points (regardless of the score on the boards).
Current Status of the Tournament
As of today, five teams have confirmed their participation. There are still spots left for three more teams—join while you can!
If you'd like to field your own team or play for one of the existing teams, this is an excellent chance to compete against the country's best chess players, a rare opportunity in itself. For any questions about participation, please contact the organizers directly.
You can also become the title sponsor of this historic tournament and gain widespread recognition within the national chess community.
