Turkmenistan and the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping are considering the possibility of concluding a new agreement on delegating authority to carry out convention inspections of ships flying the Turkmen flag.
The issue was discussed during a visit of a Turkmen delegation to the register’s headquarters on April 15. The delegation included representatives of the State Service of Maritime and River Transport, the state authority overseeing shipping, as well as the Turkmenbashi International Seaport.
During a meeting with Acting Director General Andrey Fasolko, the parties also discussed promising areas of cooperation. These include advisory support, cooperation in software development, and issues related to the operation of ships under the Turkmen flag.
Special attention was paid to the development of partnership in personnel training. With the participation of representatives of the Admiral S.O. Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, the parties reviewed issues related to the implementation of international standards for seafarer training, as well as the establishment of a modern training and simulation center in Turkmenistan for maritime crew members.
Following the visit, the parties noted the constructive nature of the dialogue and confirmed their intention to develop mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of maritime transport.
