The International Organization for Migration (IOM) commended Turkmenistan for its consistent humanitarian policy, pursued under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. Particular emphasis was placed on the country's unique experience in completely eradicating statelessness by 2024, ensuring that all interested individuals receive legal documentation.
This fundamental position of IOM was reaffirmed at a meeting between Amanmuhammet Sazakov, Chairman of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, and Amy Pope, IOM Director-General, held at UN Headquarters in New York.
The two discussed the current state and prospects of partnership, as well as pressing issues on the international migration agenda, including its humanitarian aspects. IOM Director Amy Pope emphasized the critical importance of the 24-hour humanitarian corridor established by Turkmenistan to ensure uninterrupted transit and repatriation of citizens from the Middle East crisis zone.

High praise was also expressed for the successful organization of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Countries, held in Avaza in August 2025, and the outcome documents adopted there.
The meeting was a logical continuation of the active participation of the Turkmenistan delegation in the Second International Migration Review Forum, held at UN Headquarters from May 5 to 8 under the auspices of the General Assembly. Speaking at the Forum's plenary session, Amanmuhammet Sazakov reaffirmed the country's commitment to the principles of multilateral cooperation.
The statement emphasized that Turkmenistan is consistently integrating the goals of the Global Compact on Migration into national legislation. Migrants residing in the country have equal access to government services, and the State Migration Service issues modern biometric documents, including residence permits for refugees, in accordance with ICAO standards.
The statement particularly highlighted President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's initiative, announced during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in 2025, to create a Global Digital Integration Platform based on the principles of equality and trust.
The Turkmen side confirmed its readiness to further strengthen its partnership with the International Organization for Migration, expand joint programs, and develop practical cooperation in humanitarian aid and sustainable development. International participants at the Forum highly praised Turkmenistan's efforts in the area of migration and the practical effectiveness of its national policy.
