According to leading Indian media outlets, including The Economic Times, a severe storm with torrential rain, large hail, and hurricane-force winds reaching 130 km/h (80 mph) struck India's most populous state. The powerful cyclone claimed at least 117 lives and injured dozens more. The storm caused extensive damage to the region's infrastructure: more than 300 homes were destroyed or damaged, power lines and mobile phone service were downed, and hundreds of trees were toppled. Emergency rescue operations have been launched in the affected districts, including Prayagraj, the hardest-hit district.
