From November 2 to 4, a regional capacity-building seminar for representatives from Asia-Pacific countries—tasked with matters related to the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage—took place in the city of Jeonju, Republic of Korea.

The event was organized by the International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (ICHCAP)—operating under the auspices of UNESCO—and the Cultural Heritage Administration of the Republic of Korea.

At the opening ceremony, welcoming remarks were delivered by Heo Min, an official from the Cultural Heritage Administration of the Republic of Korea, and Gyuri Park, Director-General of the International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (ICHCAP).

The seminar was attended by national coordinators from states parties to the Convention within the Asia-Pacific region, as well as international UNESCO experts in the relevant field. Turkmenistan was represented at the event by Jemal Rematullayeva, an officer in the Secretariat of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, who is also currently a participant in the ICHCAP Associate Experts Programme.

The primary objective of the seminar was to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of representatives from states parties to the Convention regarding the preparation of periodic global reports on the implementation of the Convention at the national level, as well as to examine international experience.

During the seminar, participants exchanged experiences on improving the periodic reporting system, discussed issues and challenges encountered in implementing the Convention at the national level, and underscored the importance of the involvement of communities, groups, and individuals in efforts to safeguard intangible cultural heritage.
