Book restorers from Turkmenistan have completed an "advanced" course of study in Moscow

Specialists from Turkmenistan, as well as Belarus, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have successfully completed the professional development program "Classical sheet Restoration: Advanced course". Certificates were presented by the Director General of the RSL Vadim Duda, who stressed the importance of sharing experience with colleagues from the CIS and expressed gratitude to all participants for their diligence and desire to enrich their knowledge and skills in the field of restoration. He noted that paper is important, but the main thing is what remains in the hands, in the mind and in the heart.

The professional development program includes lectures, practical classes and master classes. Each participant is engaged at an individual restoration table, while all the actions of the teacher are broadcast on the screen.

The curriculum was developed by the staff of the Department for the Preservation of the funds of the RSL, restorers of the highest category.

Each student completed the following restoration work: a newspaper, a leaflet and a brochure. The audience visited the restoration workshops of Leninka, the Book Museum, the department of manuscripts, a master class on making marble paper from Elena Belozerova. The guests from the CIS tried the techniques of creating patterns on paper and were very impressed.

In 2023, the RSL, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, is implementing a cycle of educational programs for advanced training in the field of professional activity in the field of preservation of library collections. The main task of the training is the formation of professional competencies of library personnel, which allow ensuring the safety and security of the unique handwritten and printed heritage in the CIS space.

The programs are implemented both in full-time and in correspondence format. They are designed specifically for specialists of libraries of the Commonwealth member states.

The second full-time group started training on October 16.
