Ashgabat hosts young mathematicians of the world: II International Mathematical Olympiad among schoolchildren
22.04.2025 | 16:50 |ASHGABAT, April 22, (ORIENT). Turkmenistan continues to strengthen its status as an important center for international cooperation in the field of education and science. A striking confirmation of this was the grand opening of the II International Mathematical Olympiad among schoolchildren in the capital. This event not only reveals young talents, but also helps bring together young people from different countries, exchange knowledge and strengthen friendly ties for the benefit of a common peaceful future.
The Olympiad, organized on the basis of specialized comprehensive school No. 131 in Ashgabat, brought together an impressive number of participants. A large group of gifted schoolchildren - more than 230 children from 15 countries of the world - arrived in the Turkmen capital for the competition. The geography of the participants covers countries of the near and far abroad, including the Russian Federation, China, Iran, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Vietnam, Belarus, Bulgaria, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, and, of course, young mathematicians from Turkmenistan itself. The foreign schoolchildren are accompanied by 49 experienced teachers. All guests were warmly welcomed in the best traditions of Turkmen hospitality, creating a warm and sincere atmosphere.
The importance of stimulating mathematical talents in young people cannot be overestimated. Mathematics is the language of science and technology, the basis of innovation, critical thinking and progress. It is mathematical knowledge that opens the doors to future discoveries in a variety of fields, from engineering to artificial intelligence. As noted in the speeches at the opening ceremony, the development of this science has deep historical roots in the region of Central Asia and the Middle East, as evidenced by the outstanding achievements of such great scientists of the Middle Ages as Muhammad ibn Musa Khorezmi, Abu Reyhan Biruni, Abu Ali ibn Sina, Omar Khayyam and many others. Holding such international Olympiads in Turkmenistan is a continuation of this rich scientific tradition and an effort to support a new generation of researchers and discoverers.
In addition to identifying and supporting mathematical abilities, the International Olympiad serves the noble goal of bringing together young people from different countries. Joint participation in intellectual competitions, communication, acquaintance with each other's culture - all this breaks down barriers and promotes the formation of friendly contacts based on mutual respect and understanding. When young people from different countries find a common language through the universal laws of mathematics and common interests, this directly works to promote the principles of peace, trust and dialogue in the international arena - the very principles that underlie the foreign policy of neutral Turkmenistan. The Olympiad becomes a platform for "youth diplomacy", sowing the seeds of peace and friendship.
The opening ceremony was held in a bright and memorable atmosphere. Young talents, winners of national creative competitions, the children's choir "Gunesh" and talented dance groups took part in the musical part. Their colorful performance created a real holiday for all those present.
An exhibition was also organized for the guests, demonstrating the achievements of Turkmen schoolchildren in science, art and national crafts, including impressive demonstrations of handicrafts and a performance by the violin ensemble "Mukam". The participants were shown videos about independent Turkmenistan, its education system and achievements.
In the welcoming speeches of the heads of the education sector, the chairman of the jury and members of foreign delegations, the great importance of this international competition was especially emphasized both in identifying the most talented young mathematicians - both from Turkmenistan and from abroad - and in promoting the ideals of peace, trust and dialogue through live communication between young people.
The II International Mathematical Olympiad in Ashgabat is not only a test of knowledge, but also an important step towards strengthening international cooperation in the field of education, developing scientific talents in the younger generation and building a friendlier and more trusting world, starting from the school level.
