Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan expresses confusion over US entry restrictions
10.06.2025 | 15:15 |The Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan issued a statement in connection with the media reports about the introduction of a partial ban on entry into the United States for citizens of Turkmenistan. "This decision causes extreme confusion and concern on the part of the Turkmen side," the statement published on the Foreign Ministry's page says.
Turkmenistan, being a neutral state, which status has been recognized three times by UN General Assembly resolutions, strictly complies with all international norms and rules in the field of migration. In this context, Turkmenistan's experience in the practical implementation of UN conventions regulating the resolution of legal, social, humanitarian and other issues of refugees and stateless persons is one of the most advanced in the world. This is constantly noted at various international forums held under the auspices of the UN and other authoritative international organizations, the Foreign Ministry emphasized.
At the same time, Turkmenistan, in close cooperation with foreign countries in accordance with bilateral agreements, effectively addresses the issue of entry and exit of citizens on a reciprocal basis, which allows for proper control over compliance with the laws of the interested parties.
"The Turkmen side is deeply convinced that measures similar to the specified restrictions are introduced in cases of foreign citizens committing serious offenses in the host country. In this regard, it should be especially emphasized that citizens of Turkmenistan traveling abroad, including to the United States of America, are distinguished by a high level of law-abidingness," the statement said.
Based on the above, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan considers the above decision "as a hasty step that does not take into account the high results of bilateral Turkmen-American cooperation in a wide range of areas, as well as its current positive development, including in such an important area as migration policy."
