Together with representatives of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, Turkmen specialists are studying Spain’s best practices in implementing evidence-based strategies to reduce drug demand. Over the course of five days, the delegates meet with Spanish policymakers, practitioners, and healthcare specialists, learning about innovative approaches in prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
The program includes meetings at the Spanish Ministry of Health, visits to the “San Isidro” shelter and the mobile unit “Madroño” in Madrid. In the Asturias region, the delegation visits the ACDA Addiction Treatment Center, the “Proyecto Hombre Asturias” program, and the Addiction Treatment Department in Oviedo. The participants also visited the Intelligence Center for Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime (CITCO).
This study visit serves as a platform for sharing experiences, strengthening institutional capacity, and developing future cooperation between Central Asian countries and their European partners. The knowledge and practical experience gained contribute to the improvement of national strategies for combating psychoactive substances in Turkmenistan and the region as a whole.
