New Regulations Boost Turkmenistan's Permanent Missions to International Organizations

One of the key decisions at the Turkmen government meeting on Wednesday, October 8, was the head of state's approval of the Regulations on Turkmenistan's Permanent Missions to International Organizations.

Turkmenistan, a member of 54 international organizations and with permanent representatives to 19 of them, is taking consistent steps to strengthen its partnership with the UN, OSCE, OIC, ECO, and other global and regional organizations.

The new Regulations are intended to elevate this active work to a qualitatively new, more structured, and effective level. This document, based on the Constitution and international law, clearly regulates the activities and powers of the Permanent Missions, as well as the priorities of the Permanent Representative (status, functions, and objectives).

As Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov noted, the Regulation places emphasis on the practical promotion of national interests and the implementation of foreign policy, including: representing and protecting the rights and interests of Turkmenistan and its citizens; maintaining a systemic dialogue with international organizations; and facilitating the implementation of constructive initiatives by the head of Turkmenistan aimed at strengthening peace, security, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
