In Turkmenistan, the operetta “Husband and Wife” by the outstanding Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli has been presented to audiences in the Turkmen language.
According to Report, the operetta was performed in Turkmen for the first time on the stage of the Main Drama Theatre named after Great Saparmurat Turkmenbashy.
Written in 1909 and considered the first operetta of the East, the work was warmly received by the Ashgabat audience — the performance drew sincere interest and long-lasting applause.
It is worth noting that the legacy of the great Uzeyir Hajibeyli traditionally holds a special place in the cultural life of Turkmenistan. Along with “Husband and Wife,” another famous operetta by the composer — “Arshin Mal Alan” — is also successfully staged in Ashgabat’s theatres, consistently earning high praise from both local and international spectators.
