Scientific organizations in Turkmenistan are conducting research aimed at developing optimal ways for the human body to adapt to the country’s extremely hot climatic and geographical conditions. This was reported by the Minister of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, Murat Mammedov.

“In accordance with the National Climate Change Strategy of Turkmenistan, specific measures are being implemented to adapt to climate change. At the Scientific and Clinical Center of Physiology of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, specialists are carrying out scientific studies to assess the impact of high air temperatures on public health and the adaptation of the human body to hot climates. The patterns of functioning of the body as a whole and of its systems under the influence of natural, climatic, and industrial factors are being studied in order to develop optimal ways for human adaptation to the extremely hot climatic and geographical conditions of Turkmenistan,” he said at the international conference “Food Security in a Changing World,” which was held recently in Ashgabat.

Mammedov also noted that in the context of climate change and the transformation of health risks, it is necessary to adapt agricultural production to meet the needs of the future food system.

“Scientific approaches already exist that propose practical solutions based on the interconnection between climate change, agriculture, and healthcare. One such approach is the ‘One Health’ concept,” he explained.

The minister stated that an intersectoral and interagency organizational committee has been established in Turkmenistan to implement the “One Health” concept. This approach mobilizes various disciplines and communities at different levels to work together to strengthen well-being and counter threats to health and ecosystems. At the same time, common objectives such as ensuring access to clean water, energy, and clean air are addressed, and measures are taken to combat climate change and promote sustainable development,” the minister said.
