The opening ceremony of the 6th Open International Mathematical Olympiad for University Students (OMOUS-2026) took place on March 24th in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, at the International University of Humanities and Development (IUHD).
This year, OMOUS-2026 boasts a diverse geography of participants. Teams from many countries are participating in the intellectual competition, including the Russian Federation, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Republic of Greece, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Hungary, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Republic of Tajikistan, and the United Arab Emirates. Along with international guests, students from universities in the provinces and capital of Turkmenistan are also demonstrating their knowledge.

The annual intellectual forum once again brought together hundreds of the best mathematics students representing leading higher education institutions in Turkmenistan and abroad. Over the years, the OMOUS Olympiad has become a prestigious platform not only for identifying talented individuals but also for strengthening international academic cooperation and exchanging scientific experience.
Representatives of foreign universities and university administration spoke at the official portion of the event. The welcoming speeches emphasized that the development of science and education, the digitalization of the educational process, and support for talented youth are priority areas of state policy. Particular attention was paid to the role of mathematics as a fundamental basis for technological progress and the innovative development of the national economy.

The Olympiad is held in individual and team competitions. The competition program includes solving complex problems in various areas of mathematical analysis, algebra, number theory, and combinatorics.
The organizers noted that this year's tasks were prepared in accordance with advanced international methodologies, and the use of modern digital platforms for checking results ensures maximum transparency and objectivity.
In addition to the academic portion, a rich cultural program has been prepared for Olympiad participants. Visitors to the capital will have the opportunity to explore Ashgabat's landmarks, visit museums, and cultural centers, thereby strengthening friendly ties between young people from different countries and promoting Turkmenistan's rich cultural heritage.

The Olympiad will last for several days, after which winners in various categories will be determined.
