A lecture on Turkmenistan was held at CULeuven University in Belgium with the participation of the Ambassador of Turkmenistan, renowned blogger and polyglot Yuja Beleza, and Central Asian researcher Darya Soysal.
In his speech, the Ambassador described Turkmenistan's development as an independent state, noting that after gaining independence in 1991, the country faced the key task of "developing as a full-fledged and responsible actor in international relations." He emphasized that Turkmenistan has consciously chosen the path of independent development, not becoming a sphere of influence, but rather building its own foreign policy based on the principles of neutrality, equality, and mutual respect.
Particular attention was paid to the importance of national identity. The Ambassador noted that the Turkmen language has become a key element in the development of the state, becoming not only the official language but also the foundation of the cultural unity of society. In this context, he emphasized that language is the "voice of the nation," through which thinking is shaped, values are transmitted, and historical memory is preserved.
The speech also explained the significance of the theme of the year and its motto, "Independent, Neutral Turkmenistan – the Homeland of Purposeful Winged Horses."
The Ambassador noted that the image of the Akhal-Teke horse symbolizes strength, endurance, and determination, and it is with this approach that the country continues its development.
The students were shown a video presentation about Turkmenistan, revealing the country's rich cultural heritage, natural diversity, and achievements in socioeconomic development, allowing the audience to gain a more holistic understanding of modern Turkmenistan.
In his speech, Yuji Beleza shared his personal story of becoming a polyglot and content creator, recounting his experiences learning languages and emphasizing that addressing people in their native language creates an atmosphere of trust and mutual understanding. His presentation resonated with the students and demonstrated the practical importance of languages in intercultural communication.
Daria Soysal presented an analytical perspective on the Central Asian region, noting its growing role on the international agenda and the importance of deepening academic and expert dialogue.
The event was held in a lively and interactive atmosphere and featured a lively question-and-answer session. During the discussion, the Ambassador emphasized that Turkmenistan consistently advocates peaceful dialogue, based on the belief that, regardless of the complexity of international issues, there is always scope for diplomatic solutions.
Following the lecture, participants were treated to a tasting of Turkmen cuisine, allowing them to gain a closer understanding of national traditions and enhance their overall impression of the country.
Concluding the event, participants noted that such meetings extend far beyond academic lectures, becoming spaces for lively communication, the exchange of ideas, and mutual understanding. It is through such open dialogues that new connections are formed, interest in culture is strengthened, and the foundation for further cooperation between Turkmenistan and the younger generation of Europe is laid.
