New citizens of Turkmenistan receive passports
25.09.2024 | 16:25 |Today, 25 September, in the conference hall of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, a solemn ceremony of handing over passports to persons granted citizenship of Turkmenistan and residence permits to foreign citizens residing in Turkmenistan took place.
According to the decree signed by the Head of State at the Cabinet of Ministers meeting held on 20 September, 1,146 people from 29 nationalities permanently residing in Turkmenistan became citizens of Turkmenistan. In addition, 134 people, citizens of six foreign States and representatives of 15 nationalities, have applied for residence permits in Turkmenistan.
This significant event, coinciding with the national holiday - the Independence Day, became another vivid confirmation of the country’s unwavering commitment to high humanitarian traditions, principles of compassion, and goodwill.
At the solemn ceremony of handing over the passports, those granted citizenship Turkmenistan expressed words of deep gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for the significant attention given to addressing the issues of stateless persons and creating all the necessary conditions for their prosperous life.
As is known, over the years, according to the decrees of the President of Turkmenistan, 30,998 people living in our country without citizenship of other states have been granted citizenship of Turkmenistan. Currently, residence permits have been issued to 5,018 foreign citizens and stateless persons.
Thus, this event once again confirmed our country's unwavering commitment to the generally accepted norms of international law, promotion of regional and global humanistic initiatives put forward by the Head of the Turkmen state, Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
These humanitarian decisions clearly demonstrate the unwavering commitment of the Fatherland to fulfil its obligations under multilateral international documents, particularly the United Nations Conventions on "The Status of Refugees", "The Status of Stateless Persons" and "The Reduction of Statelessness".
