ADB and Afghanistan signed an agreement to finance the construction of a power transmission line from Uzbekistan “Surkhan - Puli-Khumri”. The document provides for the allocation of $110 million. The bulk of the funds will be directed to construction work, which is planned to be carried out by Uzbek contractors.

The construction of the Surkhan-Puli-Khumri power transmission line will increase the supply of electricity from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan by 70% - up to 6 billion kWh per year. The power line will connect Kabul to the unified energy system of Central Asia. The total cost of the project is $150 million, of which $118 million is invested by the Afghan side (of which 110 are ADB loan funds), and $32 million - by the Uzbek side.

A delegation from the US International Development Finance Corporation in Doha met with representatives of the Taliban movement banned in many countries and promised investments in the Afghan economy if peace reigns in the country, Taliban spokesman Muhammad Naim said on Twitter.

According to him, Deputy Political Office of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (as the Taliban call themselves) Muhammad Abbas Stanikzai and his accompanying delegation met with Director General of the US International Development Finance Corporation Adam S. Boehler and members of his group.

“During the meeting, the sides discussed the possibilities of financial investments in Afghanistan. The American delegation stated that Afghanistan is a promising country for global investment. Peace and stability must be ensured to attract them,” the message says.
