Turkmenistan and the UN define key areas of cooperation for the next five years
22.05.2025 | 23:39 |On May 22, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and heads of UN agencies in the country and the region held an online meeting of the United Nations Country Team. The main topic of the meeting was the definition of Turkmenistan's national priorities for the new UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026-2030, as well as the search for ways to intensify efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan presented in detail the key areas of the country's strategic partnership with the UN, covering a wide range of issues, including maintaining peace and security, socio-economic development, implementing the SDGs, developing transport and energy, combating climate change and other important areas.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the activities of the Turkmenistan-UN Strategic Advisory Council, created last year. This Council plays a key role in coordinating the implementation of national programs and international initiatives of Turkmenistan in close cooperation with the UN in both the political and socio-economic planes.
During the talks, there was an interested exchange of views on the prospects for further partnership between Turkmenistan and specialized UN structures in areas such as sustainable development, transport, combating climate change and environmental protection. Humanitarian issues were also touched upon, including respect for human rights, preserving the rich national cultural heritage and introducing best practices into the education and health systems.
The heads of UN departments presented information on current joint interaction with the Government of Turkmenistan, and also voiced their ideas and proposals for further deepening cooperation.
The meeting participants agreed on a schedule of upcoming meetings and planned joint events, which demonstrates mutual interest in continuing active and fruitful work.
