Turkiye is transforming into a potential energy export hub
30.05.2025 | 19:47 |Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told journalists from his press pool that Turkey has transformed not only into an energy resource importing country, but also into a country producing them, and a potential energy resource exporter. This was reported by TASS with reference to the Anadolu agency. He noted that the discovery of 75 billion cubic meters of natural gas reserves in the Black Sea is the result of the country's intensive and systematic work. On May 29, the first Turkish floating gas production platform, "Osman Gazi," set off for the Sakarya gas field in the Black Sea, whose operation will allow for the doubling of natural gas production in the Black Sea.
According to Erdoğan, Turkey is taking decisive steps to reduce its external dependence on strategic resources such as natural gas, and thanks to the discovery of new energy deposits, it is becoming one of the countries setting the direction of the industry in the region. The publication cites the Turkish President's statement that the country, located at the center of transit energy routes, with the growth of natural gas production, will become not only a transit route, but also a center for pricing, storage, and trade.
Justifying this prospect, the Turkish leader stated: "On April 1, we delivered gas from Turkmenistan to Turkey for the first time in 27 years. We are receiving many requests for natural gas from European leaders who occasionally call us during our foreign visits. We have started exporting natural gas to Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and Serbia. Following our visit to Pakistan in February, our colleagues went to Pakistan, where Pakistani state-owned companies and Turkish Petroleum agreed on the exploration of two onshore fields in that country. Today, we have reached an agreement on offshore exploration and will begin it in the near future. We are also intensifying and will continue this activity together with Libya and other countries".
