Turkmenistan strengthens cooperation within the "Central Asia – Italy" Summit framework

The news that the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, participated in the first Summit in the "Central Asia – Italy" format, held in Kazakhstan, became a significant regional topic. Indeed, the "CA+" format, in this case CA-Italy, has proven to be a well-established platform for discussing prospects for multifaceted interaction between the Central Asian states and the Italian Republic.

During the visit, the Head of Turkmenistan held a series of bilateral meetings. In particular, a meeting took place with the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during which, in a traditionally warm and trustful atmosphere, the parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment to the further strengthening of the bonds of friendship and brotherhood, as well as to the expansion of multi-vector cooperation between the two countries. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the Summit would give a new impetus to regional interaction and partnership with Italy.

A meeting also took place between the President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, Giorgia Meloni. The parties expressed mutual confidence that the current dialogue would contribute to the progressive development of Turkmen-Italian relations. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation with European countries, including Italy.

Within the framework of the first "Central Asia + Italy" summit, the heads of state of the region and the President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic signed a joint declaration, which formalized the intention to strengthen cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, security, and sustainable development. The document emphasized the importance of expanding trade and economic ties, developing transport corridors, as well as joint environmental initiatives and water resource management projects. The signing of the declaration creates a basis for further strengthening the partnership between Turkmenistan and Italy, and also contributes to regional stability and development.

It should be noted that the political and diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and Italy are consistently developing both bilaterally and multilaterally – within the framework of the UN, OSCE, and other international structures.

Cooperation between Italy and the Central Asian countries, which possess significant resources, sustainable economic growth, and a favorable geographical location, opens up new opportunities for the implementation of joint projects, including in the spheres of energy, industry, infrastructure, as well as the transfer of advanced IT technologies and investments.

Undoubtedly, the holding of the first "Central Asia – Italy" Summit reflects the growing interest of the European Union in the Central Asian region, which possesses a strategic location and energy potential.

Italy, being one of the key economies of the EU, acts as a kind of bridge between Brussels and the Central Asian states, facilitating the promotion of the pan-European agenda in such relevant areas as sustainable development, green energy, and infrastructural connectivity.

In this context, Turkmenistan's participation in the summit demonstrates its consistent foreign policy line, oriented towards expanding partnerships with all interested partners, including European countries.

For the EU itself, deepening dialogue with Central Asia, including bilateral formats with countries such as Italy, allows for the creation of a more flexible and pragmatic architecture of interaction with the region, which is becoming increasingly significant from both a geopolitical and an economic point of view.
