Turkmenistan Discusses Prospects for Environmental Cooperation With International Partners in Dushanbe
02.06.2025 | 17:15 |A Turkmen delegation led by Minister of Environmental Protection Chary Babaniyazov held a series of meetings with international partners during the High-Level International Conference on Glacier Protection, held from May 29 to 31 in Dushanbe. The discussions aimed to strengthen cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
According to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Tajikistan, on May 29 a meeting was held with Mafalda Duarte, Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund. The sides discussed measures to combat desertification, the rational use of water resources, and the development of national hydrometeorological services’ capacity.
On May 30, the Turkmen minister held talks with Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hisayuki Fujii. Particular attention was paid to the outcomes of the recent visit of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Japan. During the visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and the Research Initiative of Japan’s Chudo University. The document is aimed at improving the national greenhouse gas inventory and enhancing reporting under the Paris Agreement.
In addition, during the conference, the minister held talks with Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization Asad Majid Khan. The parties discussed prospects for developing environmental partnerships within the ECO framework and supporting new regional initiatives.
