Grain Harvesting Campaign Begins in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan launched its 2025 grain harvesting campaign Wednesday, with the first combine harvesters heading into the fields in Ahal, Lebap and Mary velayats. Farmers in the Balkan and Dashoguz velayats will join the harvest starting June 11.

According to official media reports, the country plans to harvest 1.4 million metric tons of grain from 690,000 hectares. Ahal province is expected to contribute 400,000 tons, Mary 345,000 tons, Lebap 310,000 tons, Dashoguz 265,000 tons and Balkan 80,000 tons. The crops were planted using high-yield winter wheat varieties.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov gave his blessing to the harvest at a Cabinet of Ministers meeting on May 29, wishing success to the nation’s farmers. The campaign is being held during the International Year of Peace and Trust and is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.

As part of a traditional ceremony marking the start of the harvest, local elders offered prayers for the nation’s prosperity and handed the first sheaves of grain to combine operators with blessings. 1 Crews of experienced operators have been assembled to ensure an efficient harvest. Modern agricultural machinery and combine harvesters are in use, supported by repair crews that will supply fuel, spare parts and maintenance. The harvested grain will be transported by truck, and quality will be checked by specialists from the Türkmenstandartlary service.

Research institutions, including the Institute of Grain Farming, are developing new wheat varieties. Recent cultivars include Serdar, Arkadag and Pyragy. These are undergoing testing, with a focus on efficient land and water use.

As part of Turkmenistan’s National Socioeconomic Development Program for 2022–2028, the government has approved higher state procurement prices for wheat and cotton, aiming to encourage farmers and enhance food security.
