From International Trade to Digitalization – Highlights from the Government Meeting on July 4

The regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers was held under the chairmanship of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, where issues of socio-economic development of the country, strengthening of international cooperation and implementation of large-scale national projects were considered. In our review of the meeting: main topics of reports, proposals and decisions.
Chairperson of the Mejlis Dunyagozel Gulmanova presented information on the progress of preparation of new bills covering various spheres of life in the country. It was also reported on the active participation of the Mejlis delegation in the 32nd annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Porto, where an important side event dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust and the principles of neutrality in achieving security was organized jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. As part of the visit, productive meetings were held with the OSCE PA representative for Central Asia and parliamentarians from the region.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Khodjamyrat Geldimyradov reported on the steps to strengthen economic ties with international structures. In particular, the proposal of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Turkmenistan's participation in the second stage of the Integrated Trade Program until 2030, part of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program (CAREC), was reviewed and approved. This project is aimed at increasing regional trade, digitalization and environmental development, which implies participation in subprojects on trade policy and trade facilitation. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed to carry out the necessary work to join the initiative.
The Deputy Prime Minister also reported on the preparations for the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which will be held on August 4-8 in the Avaza National Tourist Zone. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a corresponding Resolution, emphasizing the importance of the forum for increasing the economic potential of developing countries and building up regional and international trade relations.
Deputy Prime Minister Batyr Amanov presented a report on measures to strengthen the material and technical base of the State Concern Turkmengaz. The introduction of innovative technologies and the latest scientific achievements for the precise study of fields and the effective development of oil and gas reserves is a priority. The President approved the proposal to provide the industry with modern geophysical equipment, instructing to take appropriate measures.
In the agricultural complex, as reported by Deputy Prime Minister Tangryguly Atakhalliyev, the grain harvest is coming to an end. Preparations for the upcoming sowing of winter wheat are actively underway, cotton care and work in rice fields in the Dashoguz and Lebap velayats, and sugar beet sowing in the Mary velayat continue. Particular attention is paid to increasing the volume of vegetable and melon crops. The head of state instructed to strictly control the harvest, land preparation and crop care.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Baymyrat Annamammedov reported on the development of the road construction industry, within the framework of which the construction and repair of modern highways and bridges continues in the velayats.
Deputy Prime Minister Nokerguly Atagulyev reported on measures to develop national carpet weaving, aimed at modernizing the material and technical base of Turkmenhaly enterprises and improving the quality of products. The President approved the proposed measures.
Bahar Seyidova presented information on the organization of the activities of the country's museums. Large museums are introducing digital platforms for remote excursions, and the Arkadag Museum of History and Local History uses a QR code system. Work is actively underway to prepare for the archaeological exhibition "The Flourishing of Cultures: Bronze Age Margiana and the Parthian Kingdom. Archaeological Discoveries in Turkmenistan" in Rome, Italy, scheduled for autumn.
Deputy Prime Minister Bayramgul Orazdurdyeva reported on the development of the health resort business, emphasizing the introduction of best practices and strengthening the material and technical base of sanatoriums equipped with innovative medical equipment.
Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency Mammetkhan Chakiyev reported on the development of the digital economy. Within the framework of cooperation with international organizations and the UN Development Program, the exchange of experience and training of specialists were discussed. The President approved the proposal to establish cooperation between the Türkmenaragatnaşyk Agency and the Estonian e-Governance Academy, - a consulting organization on digital transformation.
