Islamabad: Turkmenistan Develops Dialogue at the UN and the Congress of Parliamentarians
04.07.2025 | 22:00 |In the first days of July, important meetings were held at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Islamabad, confirming the active role of the country in strengthening international cooperation and inter-parliamentary ties.
On July 2, Ambassador of Turkmenistan Atajan Movlamov met with Director General for UN Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Umer Siddique. During the conversation, issues of cooperation between the two countries within the UN system were discussed. Ambassador Movlamov informed about the upcoming Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which will be held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone in August this year, emphasizing its global significance.
Umer Siddique highly appreciated Turkmenistan's decision to provide its platform for such a significant forum, noting the relevance of the topic of ensuring sustainable access to the open sea for the development of logistics, trade and integration.
Ambassador Movlamov also congratulated Pakistan on its presidency of the UN Security Council for the month of July, while Siddique assured Pakistan of its intention to promote the principles of a just world order. The parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral dialogue at various UN venues.
On July 3, the Embassy hosted a meeting with a delegation led by Secretary General of the International Parliamentarians Congress (IPC), Senator Sitara Ayaz. The Turkmen side presented a presentation on the country's peaceful foreign policy and permanent neutrality, its economic potential and developing inter-parliamentary ties. The Pakistani side highly appreciated the policy of neutral Turkmenistan.
Possible formats of partnership were discussed, including the organization of joint events and forums to strengthen inter-parliamentary dialogue, exchange legislative practices and coordinate efforts to address pressing issues. The parties expressed mutual interest in further strengthening ties and practical interaction in the inter-parliamentary arena.
Both meetings emphasized Turkmenistan's desire to expand diplomatic contacts and cooperation both at the UN multilateral platforms and at the level of parliamentary diplomacy.
