The article notes that Turkmenistan is confidently moving from hosting regional competitions to gaining international recognition by developing a structured system for chess. In 2024 alone, 130 FIDE-rated tournaments were held across the country, and in 2025, the national Grand Prix series, which covers all regions, continues to be implemented.
The publication places special emphasis on efforts to support young chess players. Children as young as six have access to lessons and tournaments, and they also participate in international competitions. Turkmen juniors are actively improving their ratings, and the country organizes training camps and online seminars with the participation of international masters.
The article names Turkmenistan's leading chess players: Grandmasters Saparmurat Atabayev, Mesgen Amanov, and Yusup Atabayev, as well as FIDE Master Lala Shokhradova, who became the first Turkmen participant in the Women's World Cup in 2025.
These successes reflect the focused and comprehensive approach implemented by the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan. The country is taking confident steps toward building a new generation of players capable of representing Turkmenistan with distinction on the international stage.
