Turkmenistan and Moldova Exchanged Experiences in Strengthening Child Protection and Family Support Systems
29.10.2025 | 15:50 |From October 20 to 25, a Turkmen delegation, including M. Pirliyeva, Head of the Department of Preschool Education of the Ministry of Education, visited Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. The familiarization visit, organized by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), was dedicated to exchanging experiences in child protection, family support, and the development of social services.
The Turkmen delegation included representatives from the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, as well as the General Prosecutor’s Office.
The main goal of the visit was to exchange experiences in child protection, the development of family services, and the improvement of social services at the local level, with special attention to studying Moldova’s model of transitioning to family-based care. This long-term reform aims to ensure that every child grows up in a family environment rather than in specialized institutions.
Participants also studied the country’s experience in moving from institutionalized childcare to family and community-based services, including practices aimed at comprehensive family support.
During the visit, the Turkmen delegation held meetings with representatives of Moldova’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, city authorities, and public organizations. The discussions became an important step in strengthening effective cooperation between the two countries in child protection and the development of social services.
