Economic Dialogue and Cultural Ties on the Agenda of the President of Turkmenistan's Visit to Italy
24.10.2025 | 00:08 |At a meeting of the Turkmen government on Thursday, October 23, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov presented a report on preparations for the upcoming official visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the Italian Republic.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to developing a mutually beneficial partnership with Italy and instructed the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to ensure thorough preparations for the visit.
The upcoming visit is intended to be an important step in the further expansion of bilateral relations, which are built on the basis of 39 interstate documents.
Highlights of the Visit
Meeting of the heads of state: High-level talks on October 24.
Economic dialogue: The President will participate in the Turkmen-Italian business forum, aimed at expanding cooperation in energy, transport, and the private sector.
Cultural diplomacy: Participation in the opening ceremony of the "Ancient Civilization of Turkmenistan" exhibition at the Capitoline Museum in Rome.
Following the visit, the signing of a package of bilateral documents on key areas of cooperation is planned.

Strategic and Humanitarian Cooperation
As noted in the report, cooperation between the two countries is characterized by a high level of interaction:
Political support. Italy supported all resolutions initiated by Turkmenistan at the UN General Assembly, co-sponsoring 10 of them.
Cultural heritage. Italian archaeological missions have been conducting joint research at historical sites in Turkmenistan for over 30 years. A clear example of this is the planned major archaeological exhibition in Rome (October 2025 – April 2026).
Educational ties. Cooperation is being implemented through the TEMPUS (ERASMUS) programs. Italian is taught in three Turkmen universities and six secondary schools.
The visit aims to strengthen the economic component of the partnership and showcase Turkmenistan's rich historical and cultural heritage in the European arena.
