An official ceremony for the presentation of credentials by Turkmenistan’s Permanent Representative, Vepa Hajiyev, to the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, took place at the UN Headquarters in New York. The conversation held between them reaffirmed the high level of trust and their shared views regarding the resolution of global challenges.
During the meeting, António Guterres specifically highlighted the significance of Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality. Amidst growing international instability, Ashgabat remains a steadfast pillar of regional security. The UN Secretary-General emphasized that the activities of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCPDA, Ashgabat) serve as a key instrument for maintaining peace in this geopolitically vital part of the world.

The parties devoted particular attention to the outcomes of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held in Turkmenistan in August 2025. The Secretary-General noted that the Avaza Action Program adopted at the conclusion of the forum, would serve as a roadmap for the coming decade in the fields of transport and logistics.
The UN Secretariat expressed its appreciation to Turkmenistan for its practical assistance in the reconstruction of Afghanistan. It was noted that integrating the neighboring country into major cross-border projects—specifically in the energy and transport sectors—represents the most effective path toward the long-term stabilization of the region.
António Guterres conveyed his deep respect to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and to National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, reaffirming the UN’s readiness to engage in close, constructive cooperation during this new phase of the Turkmen mission.
