The 255th anniversary of the birth of fabulist Ivan Krylov will be celebrated in Ashgabat

February 13 marks the 255th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Andreevich Krylov, writer, fabulist, playwright, translator, publisher of satirical magazines, author of opera librettos... But it was his fables that brought him great fame.

Often in our everyday speech we use expressions from Krylov’s fables, which have long become aphorisms: “And the casket just opened”, “Red summer sang”, “I didn’t even notice the elephant”, “And Vaska listens and eats”, “Some go to the forest, some go for firewood”, “The Cuckoo praises the Rooster because he praises the Cuckoo”, “Sing, darling, don’t be ashamed!”, “There's many a slip ('twixt cup and lip)”, “Don’t spit in the well - it will come in handy. .."

Sometimes it is enough to say “Swan, Pike and Cancer” to characterize the whole situation, which, as we know, ends with the fact that “things are still there.” Or phrases such as “a bear's service”, “like a squirrel in a wheel” perfectly replace long explanations.

Ivan Andreevich Krylov wrote 236 fables, in which he was able to express the people's view of things, using everyday vocabulary and colloquial speech.

On his birthday, the department of education, science and culture of the Russian Embassy in Turkmenistan is organizing events in which everyone is invited to participate. They will be held on February 13 and 15 and will include a drawing lesson on depicting characters in works and a competition for the best reading of fables.
