The Turkmen-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation Met in Ashgabat
14.10.2025 | 02:05 |The 13th meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Ashgabat. The delegations were led by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Nokerguly Atagulyev and Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin.
At the opening of the meeting, Marat Khusnullin stated that the parties are committed to actively working to deepen trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation. He emphasized that Russian-Turkmen cooperation has a solid foundation and is demonstrating dynamic development, as evidenced by a more than 30% increase in trade turnover in the first seven months of this year.
The Russian side sees potential for further expansion, including through the entry of Russian marketplaces into the Turkmen market. Khusnullin also noted the successful presence of Russian businesses in key sectors, including the operation of KAMAZ and the supply of equipment for the oil and gas industry.
For his part, Nokerguly Atagulyev confirmed that the Russian market is a priority for Turkmenistan. He expressed interest in both importing and exporting Turkmen products and noted significant potential in industry, digitalization, and agriculture. Turkmenistan is also interested in exploring Russian digital solutions to develop a unified education system.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the development of transport infrastructure, including increasing transportation by all modes of transport and efforts to develop the North-South International Transport Corridor.
Following the meeting, a comprehensive package of documents was signed, including the final Protocol of the Intergovernmental Commission meeting. Among the agreements signed were the simplification of customs operations between the customs services of the two countries, a cooperation agreement between the St. Petersburg and Turkmenistan Commodity and Raw Materials Exchanges, and plans for cooperation in education, agriculture, and horse breeding.
More than 50 representatives of relevant agencies and companies participated in the commission's work on the Russian side. Negotiations between the Ashgabat and St. Petersburg city administrations were held as part of the IGC.
During a meeting with journalists, Khusnullin stated that Russia is interested in increasing supplies of Turkmen agricultural products, and the parties agreed to expedite and increase these supplies. The Deputy Prime Minister added that Turkmen tomato supplies to Russia are increasing year after year.
He also noted that Turkmenistan has historically been of interest to Russia in terms of supplying mechanical engineering products and tubular products for petrochemical facilities.
During his visit, Marat Khusnullin visited the new smart city of Arkadag, where he learned about the experience of his Turkmen colleagues in integrated territorial development, as well as the Aba Annaev International Horse Breeding Academy.
