Dialogue in Dushanbe: How Turkmenistan and the UN Engage Youth in Promoting Neutrality and Peace
27.10.2025 | 18:00 |On October 24, a Youth Dialogue was held in Dushanbe (Tajikistan), dedicated to three significant dates: the 30th Anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Neutrality, the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations, and the International Year of Peace and Trust. The forum emphasized Turkmenistan’s commitment to using its neutral status as a platform for global diplomacy.
The event was organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the UN Permanent Mission in Tajikistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Committee for Youth and Sports of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The forum brought together representatives of government agencies, international organizations, diplomats, and youth of Tajikistan, highlighting the relevance of the event and the aspiration of young people toward peace and mutual understanding.
Neutrality as a Philosophy of Peace
The Ambassador of Turkmenistan, A. Gochmyradov, noted that these anniversaries add special significance to the development of international cooperation among youth. The central theme of the forum was Turkmenistan’s Permanent Neutrality — a unique status that has been reaffirmed three times by the UN General Assembly since 1995.

It was emphasized that neutrality for Turkmenistan is not only the foundation of foreign policy but also a philosophy of trust and good neighborliness.
Initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan
Participants paid special attention to the initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, presented at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. Among them is the proposal to establish an International Day of Mediation — an initiative aimed at emphasizing the importance of diplomacy and neutral platforms in preventing and peacefully resolving conflicts.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Tajikistan, Parvati Ramaswami, highly appreciated Turkmenistan’s contribution, noting that the policy of neutrality serves as an example of a peaceful and constructive approach to international relations. During the dialogue, young participants actively discussed the role of neutrality in strengthening the culture of peace and sustainable development.
