The visit of the Chinese government delegation to Turkmenistan, scheduled for April 15–17, promises to be a historic milestone in the energy partnership between the two countries. According to Xinhua News Agency, citing the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang will visit Ashgabat in a special capacity—as President Xi Jinping's special representative.
The highlight of the visit will be the distinguished guest's participation in the groundbreaking ceremony for the fourth phase of the super-giant Galkynysh gas field. This project is a key element in Turkmenistan's strategy to expand gas exports eastward and confirms the long-term nature of the energy alliance with China.
Let us remember that the fourth stage of the Galkynysh gas pipeline is not just an industrial facility, but a foundation for ensuring stable supplies through new branches of the transnational gas pipeline.
In addition to participating in the ceremony at the field, Ding Xuexiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, will co-chair the seventh meeting of the Turkmen-Chinese Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee on April 16 with the Turkmen side.
The committee is expected to discuss in detail investment and technology, including the transition from a raw materials-based model to a high-tech union; human resources potential and the role of the new Lu Ban Workshop Training Center in training specialists for the gas industry; energy security and strengthening the roles of Turkmenistan and China as guarantors of supply stability in Eurasia.
The current visit is taking place under the auspices of the 20th anniversary of the energy union, the foundation of which was laid by National Leader of the Turkmen People Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Today, with the support of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chairman Xi Jinping, this cooperation is taking on new meaning, reaching the level of a 21st-century intellectual and strategic partnership.
