Ashgabat Celebrated Georgia's Independence Day: Focus on Partnership and Cultural Ties
26.05.2025 | 23:58 |Ashgabat, May 26 | ORIENT. The Embassy of Georgia in Turkmenistan held a gala reception on the occasion of the country's Independence Day.
This important date, symbolizing the aspiration of the Georgian people for freedom and democracy, brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps, ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, as well as public organizations in Ashgabat.
The official part of the event was opened by Georgian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Konstantin Sabiashvili, who expressed gratitude to those gathered for participating in the celebration.
In his speech, he emphasized the significance of May 26 as "not only a symbol of the country's historical choice, but also a reflection of the Georgian people's strong commitment to democratic values, independence and an active role in the international community."
The Ambassador particularly noted Turkmenistan's support and outlined Georgia's strategic importance as a bridge between Europe and Asia.
The diplomat also emphasized the sustainability of good-neighborly and trusting relations between the two countries, based on mutual understanding and geostrategic potential.
In the sphere of trade and economic cooperation, Mr. Sabiashvili noted with satisfaction the activities of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, pointing out prospects for expansion. The diplomat called Turkmenistan a "reliable partner" in the implementation of major regional transport and energy projects.
On behalf of the Government of Turkmenistan, Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations Kerimberdi Kurbanov spoke, conveying congratulations to the Georgian people and wishing them peace and prosperity.
The Minister noted the "successful interaction" in the political-diplomatic, economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres, emphasizing the high level of interstate cooperation.
He cited the recent visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to Turkmenistan as a striking example.
The Minister reported that the volume of trade between the two countries in 2024 amounted to 245 million US dollars.
Transport and logistics, including the development of the Lyapis-Lazuli, Caspian Sea - Black Sea and Green Ports routes, were named as promising areas. The great potential for cooperation in energy and trade was also noted.
Special attention was paid to cultural interaction. Ambassador Sabiashvili thanked the Turkmen side for installing a monument to the great Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli in Ashgabat, calling it a gesture of deep respect for the Georgian heritage.
The festive part was held in a warm and sincere atmosphere. The guests enjoyed national music, performances of famous Georgian songs, and treats - from aromatic khachapuri to exquisite Georgian wine.
All this became a real highlight of the evening, conveying the unique spirit of Georgian hospitality.
And how holidays are celebrated in Georgia itself, I was lucky enough to see in person.
It is always bright in Georgian style: crowded, with soul, with ringing songs, elegant toasts - sometimes wise, sometimes sly, but always coming from the heart.
The tables are bursting with treats, the glasses are full, there is laughter, music and genuine joy everywhere.
So how can one remain indifferent or sad on such a day?
