Hyundai Sonata 2026 to Feature Retro Design, AI, and New Operating System

Hyundai is preparing to release an updated version of the 2026 Sonata with a completely redesigned look inspired by the "Art of Steel" concept. The new model will feature distinctive pixel-style headlights reminiscent of the first-generation Sonata, and it will retain gasoline and hybrid powertrains while excluding fully electric options.

The exterior of the 2026 Sonata will include retro design elements echoing the original Sonata that debuted in the 1980s. The pixel lighting gives the car a modern yet nostalgic appearance.

Inside, the vehicle will run on a new operating system called Pleos OS, which features a smartphone-like interface. It includes customizable displays and an intelligent assistant named Gleo that adapts to the driver's habits. The system also supports Level 2.5 autopilot for semi-autonomous highway driving.

Hyundai, one of South Korea's largest automakers, continues to invest in hybrid and hydrogen technologies. However, for the 2026 Sonata, the focus is on evolving traditional internal combustion engines. Available options will include 1.6L, 2.0L, and 2.5L gasoline engines, along with a hybrid variant—without an all-electric version. The vehicle is expected to premiere in 2026.
