Review of the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan: main topics and decisions
14.06.2025 | 05:25 |President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Friday, June 13, where key issues of domestic and foreign policy were considered, and important decisions were made on the development of various sectors of the economy and the social sphere. The focus was on strengthening international cooperation, modernization of industry, progress in agriculture, development of digital technologies and human capital.
Strengthening international ties and cooperation with the UN
One of the central items on the agenda was expanding cooperation with the UN. Deputy Prime Minister Khodjamyrat Geldimyradov reported on the establishment of training and information centers in Ashgabat and six etraps of the velayats. These centers, created within the framework of the regional UNDP project with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, are designed to organize professional courses for young people, expanding their opportunities and skills. The President approved this proposal, emphasizing the importance of investing in human capital.
Deputy Prime Minister Nokerguly Atagulyev reported on preparations for the exhibition of export goods of Turkmenistan in Turkey, where traditional and new areas of export potential and investment projects will be presented. He also reported on preparations for the participation of the Turkmen delegation, which he will lead, in the International Economic Forum in the Russian Federation from June 17 to 21, 2025.
Particular attention was paid to issues of ecology and climate change. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov presented proposals for the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and foreign partners in this area. It was proposed to consider the possibility of the country's accession to the documents of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP-29), holding a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Environmental Protection on June 21.
In the context of combating desertification, the Priority Positions of Turkmenistan at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly will include the issue of establishing a Regional Center to Combat Desertification for Central Asia and Neighboring States. The Caspian Environmental Initiative and the importance of intensifying work on holding a meeting of foreign ministers and the next Summit of the heads of Caspian states were discussed separately. Within the framework of the Aral Sea issue, it was proposed to hold a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on June 27 to discuss the implementation of the National Program for the Aral Sea (2021-2025) and the preparation of a new similar document for 2026-2030. It was also proposed to consider the issue of Turkmenistan's accession to the "Convention on the Law of Non-navigational Uses of International Watercourses" and to approve the Roadmap of Turkmenistan's youth initiatives in the field of climate change for 2025.
Development of key sectors of the economy
In the fuel and energy sector, Deputy Prime Minister Batyr Amanov reported on the modernization of the automated system of technological units of the Turkmenbashi complex of oil refineries. The goal is to ensure the uninterrupted and reliable functioning of production and technological facilities. The proposal was approved by the President.
In the chemical industry, Deputy Prime Minister Baimyrat Annamammedov was instructed to continue the modernization of the material and technical base of the enterprises of the State Concern "Turkmenchemistry" and to use production complexes at full capacity.
In the agricultural sector, Deputy Prime Minister Tangryguly Atakhalliyev reported on the progress of seasonal campaigns: grain harvesting, processing cotton fields, caring for rice in the Dashoguz velayat and sowing rice in the Lebap velayat. In the Mary velayat, fields are being prepared for winter sugar beet. Particular emphasis was placed on steps to improve water supply, land reclamation and cleaning of drainage networks.
Innovations, cultural and sports events
Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency Mammetkhan Chakiyev presented a proposal to organize a competition of innovative projects "Digital Solution - 2025". The competition will be held in such relevant areas as artificial intelligence, robotics, "smart" agricultural technologies, smart city, digital medicine and education. The goal is to identify talented youth and promote the widespread use of digital solutions in the national economy. The President approved the proposal.
Deputy Prime Minister Bahar Seyidova presented a plan for holding the Week of Culture in the Akhal velayat from June 22 to 27, dedicated to Day of Culture and Art Workers, as well as the poetry of Magtymguly Fragi. The program will include concerts, exhibitions, creative meetings, film screenings and performances, including the opera "Şasenem-Garyp". Deputy Prime Minister Bayramgul Orazdurdyeva reported on preparations for the international chess tournament in Ashgabat from June 15 to 19, in which young athletes from many countries will take part.
