Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan agree on “roadmap” for inter-parliamentary cooperation

On July 23, an online meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Group of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Cooperation with the Mejlis of Turkmenistan was held. The meeting was chaired by Anvar Tuychiev, Head of the Senate Committee on Agrarian, Water Management, and Environmental Issues.

During the dialogue, it was emphasized that the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan is founded upon centuries-old bonds of friendship, good-neighborliness, and close trade-economic and humanitarian ties. These relations are built on principles of mutual respect and trust, which is reflected in the parties' coordinated positions on key regional and international issues.

Particular attention was given to the role of the political will of the leaders of the two states, which serves as a solid foundation for the further development of Uzbek-Turkmen dialogue. In this regard, the significance of the meeting between President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdymukhamedov was noted. This meeting, held within the framework of the "Central Asia – European Union" summit in Samarkand from April 3-5 of this year, marked a significant event in bilateral relations.

Participants underscored the growing role of parliamentary diplomacy as a tool for strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation between countries.

Discussions focused on deepening inter-parliamentary dialogue, establishing sustainable contacts between legislative bodies, and enhancing the effectiveness of parliamentary friendship groups.

Separate attention was paid to the implementation of joint parliamentary oversight over the realization of agreements reached at the highest level.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to develop a "roadmap" for upcoming bilateral events and outlined new potential areas for inter-parliamentary interaction.
