Google is developing fully-fledged smart glasses

Google has announced the development of smart glasses running on Android, aiming to compete with Ray-Ban Meta.

At a recent Google I/O pre-show, the company presented a teaser for a new wearable device – smart glasses powered by Android and equipped with integrated cameras and artificial intelligence. The device is expected to analyze the user's surroundings and provide contextual information or answers to questions in real-time, posing a challenge to the popular Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

Drawing on its experience in wearable technology and the capabilities of the Android operating system, Google aims to advance the concept of 'smart' glasses already introduced by Meta. The new product is anticipated to feature a minimalist design and deep integration with Google's proprietary services. Despite the preliminary announcement, details regarding the device's functionality and technical specifications have not yet been disclosed. It is expected that more information will be presented during the main Google I/O conference, scheduled for May 21, 2025. The very fact of this announcement indicates the increasing competition in the market for smart glasses and augmented reality devices.
