Dagestan is interested in expanding cooperation between Caspian countries

The Republic of Dagestan is working on the issue of holding cultural and sports events together with the Caspian states - Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Azerbaijan. This was announced in an interview in the TASS studio on the sidelines of the Caucasus Investment Forum (CIF) by head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov. The news agency quotes him as saying that not only economic, but also cultural and sports ties are developing within the framework of Caspian cooperation, and various social projects are being implemented.

"Last year we proposed and this year we supported this initiative, we are now working on issues of holding various kinds of joint festivals, joint sports events, including national sports, which are largely characteristic of the Caspian states," Melikov said. He noted that the work of the interdepartmental commission on Caspian cooperation plays a major role in the development of relations between the "Caspian Five".

According to Melikov, another important area of cooperation between the region and the Caspian countries is the development of the North-South ITC. "Here, we also find understanding somewhere, and somewhere we take certain technical issues for further development. This is a natural process, but we are also moving along it," he said. In addition, Melikov named the Caspian Digital Forum, which is taking place in Dagestan, as the main platform for discussing such joint projects of the republic with the Caspian countries. Last year, the forum took place in late October in Kaspiysk, and this year, according to Melikov, it will be held again in the fall. According to the head of Dagestan, since last year, the digital forum has definitely become international, and the format of this forum primarily involves countries in the Caspian bloc.
