 President of Turkmenistan to attend major SCO Summit in China

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, which will take place from August 31 to September 1, 2025, in the city of Tianjin, northern China. This was reported by Xinhua news agency, citing the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This will be the fifth time China has hosted the summit, and it is expected to be the largest in SCO history. The meeting, held on the banks of the Haihe River, will bring together over 20 country leaders and representatives from 10 international organizations, including the UN, CIS, ASEAN, CSTO, ECO, CICA, the Eurasian Economic Commission, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Key Topics and Anticipated Outcomes

The main topics of the summit will include summarizing the SCO's activities, developing a development plan for the organization for the next decade, and strengthening cooperation in the fields of security, economy, and culture.

Following the meeting, participants are expected to:

• Adopt the Tianjin Declaration.

• Approve the SCO Development Strategy until 2035.

• Issue a statement commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the UN.

• Sign documents aimed at enhancing security, economic growth, and cultural exchange.

Expectations for the Summit

China hopes that the Tianjin summit will enable SCO countries to reach a political consensus, strengthen cooperation, and develop a unified position to counter global challenges. The organization aims to create a stable and inclusive environment to ensure peace, security, and prosperity in the region, fostering harmony and friendship among nations.
