The Trans-Caspian Corridor Forum in Tashkent will Serve as a Platform for the EU Connectivity Project

A delegation from Turkmenistan, led by Deputy Foreign Minister Myahri Byashimova, participated in a ministerial meeting in Luxembourg on October 20, organized following the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.

The forum was attended by EU Member States, Central Asian countries, the Eastern Partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, and Ukraine), and Turkey. The meeting was co-chaired by Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, and Commissioners Josef Sikela and Marta Kos.

Speaking at the session, Myahri Byashimova reaffirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to deepening mutually beneficial cooperation with the EU, based on the principles of trust, respect, and equality. The Turkmen side outlined the following key priorities for further partnership:

Transport Infrastructure: Developing modern and sustainable transport infrastructure with a particular focus on the Trans-Caspian route.

Energy Connectivity: Expanding cooperation with the EU, including support for the SECCA program, as well as collaboration in renewable energy and hydrogen technologies.

Green Agenda: Promoting environmental initiatives, including the establishment of a Regional Center to Combat Desertification and a Regional Climate Technology Center, as well as developing the Caspian Environmental Initiative.

Following the meeting, the European Union announced the preparation of a coordination framework for the implementation of its Connectivity Agenda. This large-scale project will involve states, international financial institutions, and the private sector.

Its key stage will be the Investment Forum on the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, which will be held in Tashkent in November 2025. It is at this venue that the draft coordination framework will be presented and discussed.

The EU's work will be accompanied by a detailed mapping of existing expertise and a needs analysis, which will help identify priority investments and "soft" connectivity measures. The participants of the ministerial meeting agreed to meet again in this format in a year.
