Moscow | The Parliaments of Turkmenistan and Russia Signed a Cooperation Agreement

A delegation from Turkmenistan, led by Mejlis Speaker Dunyagozel Gulmanova, paid an official visit to the Russian Federation from October 20–22. The key event of the visit was the signing of an important document strengthening interparliamentary ties.
On October 21, Mejlis Speaker Dunyagozel Gulmanova met with Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko in Moscow, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
A New Impetus for Strategic Partnership
During the talks, the heads of parliament reaffirmed the strategic and friendly nature of Turkmen-Russian relations, which are actively developing thanks to the leaders of the two countries. It was noted that the visit of Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Moscow in 2022 gave a powerful impetus to cooperation between the legislative bodies.
The parties discussed expanding fruitful cooperation across a wide range of areas. The importance of parliamentary friendship groups established bilaterally, which serve as an effective platform for exchanging legislative experience, was particularly emphasized. The parliamentarians also discussed establishing ties between relevant committees and implementing new joint projects.
Signing of a Key Document
The negotiations concluded with the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. Both sides agreed that this document opens up additional opportunities and creates new conditions for further strengthening and expanding interparliamentary ties.
Meeting at the State Duma
As part of her visit on October 22, Dunyagozel Gulmanova also met with Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the Russian State Duma.
During the exchange of views, it was recognized that interparliamentary cooperation is an important tool for bringing people closer together and strengthening mutual understanding. The need to develop this area to provide legislative support for all agreements and decisions made at the highest level was emphasized.
The importance of intensifying relations between relevant committees, young and female parliamentarians, holding joint conferences, and exchanging experiences on issues such as the protection of national values, women, and the patriotic education of youth was emphasized.
