American runner repeats three achievements of Usain Bolt at the World Championships in Budapest

Noah Lyles from the United States has become the first track and field athlete since 2015 to win three golds in a single world track championship. He won the 100m and 200m as well as the 4x100 relay. Thus, he repeated three records of Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.

Lyles is a three-time 200m world champion having won the distance at the last three world championships. This is a unique achievement as no one has been able to become 100m world champion twice in the last six championships.

Lyles also became world champion in the 100m for the first time. Only five sprinters in history have been able to win all sprint distances in one world championship. Bolt was the last to do so in 2015.

Usain Bolt is the most successful track and field athlete in world championship history. He won 11 gold medals and set world records for the 100 m (9.58 s) and 200 m (19.19 s).

The World Championships in Athletics were held in Budapest from 15 to 24 August.
