Peace is a choice and hope: A conversation on history lessons with the Chinese Embassy in Ashgabat

The 20th century was the bloodiest in human history – two world wars and several extremely problematic conflicts that could have triggered World War III…

There are events in the history of nations whose significance goes far beyond national memory. One of these events was the victory of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the entire Chinese people in the war against Japanese militarism.

Exactly 80 years ago, this long-awaited event took place. And this anniversary is not just a tribute to the past, but a reminder to all of humanity of the power of unity and responsibility to future generations.

This war, like World War II as a whole, was not a struggle between nations, but a confrontation between humanity and the forces of aggression and destruction. China, the Soviet Union, the United States, Great Britain and many other countries contributed to the common victory. Despite differences in political systems and worldviews, they managed to unite to defend peace, freedom and human dignity.

The Chinese people made enormous sacrifices, but their resilience and courage were the decisive factor in defeating militarism in Asia, this was very clearly demonstrated by the documentary film shown at the very beginning of the meeting. International support proved that at critical moments, history demands that humanity be able to rise above national interests and unite for a higher purpose.

Today, decades later, the lessons of that war are especially relevant. The world still faces challenges where the temptation of force and violence opposes dialogue and cooperation.

The memory of the fight against fascism and militarism reminds us: true strength lies not only in weapons, but in solidarity; not in hostility, but in the ability to listen to each other.

The Victory Anniversary is a memory of heroism, on the one hand, and a call for unity on the other. It is the belief that, despite differences, the peoples of the Earth are capable of finding common values, maintaining peace and building a future based on trust.

This and much more was discussed in Ashgabat during a round table organized by the Chinese Embassy in Turkmenistan, which was attended by leaders and representatives of the national parliament, political party and youth organizations, the media, political scientists, and businessmen.

...Remembering the victories of 1945 over fascism and militarism, we look not only to the past, but also to the future.

Looking back at the past, we see that even in the most difficult times, peoples found the strength for mutual understanding and joint feat. The victory of China and its allies is not only a military triumph, but also a symbol of faith that goodness and justice are stronger than aggression.

This history teaches us that different cultures, states and peoples can unite for the highest goal - the protection of life and peace on planet Earth.

If it was possible then, in the middle of the 20th century, it is even more possible today, when humanity has an incomparably greater potential for dialogue and cooperation.

Peace is not a given, given to us from above. It is the choice of each of us, which we make day after day and hourly.

The choice in favor of trust instead of suspicion, creation instead of destruction, sincere respect instead of hidden hostility.

The Victory Anniversary is a reminder that our planet is a common home for everyone.

We are all different, but this is our wealth. And therefore, we are the same in our desire to live without wars and destruction. In the pursuit of a happy future for children and grandchildren.

When nations unite for the sake of goodness and justice, no destructive force can defeat humanity.

Peace is our common choice!
