Parade of young composers at the Turkmen National Conservatory: not a final, but a prologue

On the last day of the "Week of the Department of Composition and Instrumentation" in the small hall of the Turkmen National Conservatory named after Maya Kuliyeva, a concert was held from the works of students of the composition class. The heroes of the occasion were worried and prepared for this event with all seriousness and responsibility. The concert hall gathered not only students and teachers of the conservatory, but also invited teachers from the music boarding school, as well as friends and relatives of young music authors.

It's time to introduce them. The department headed by the composer Kerimguly Garovov has eight teachers and eleven students. Garovov himself has two fifth-year students, as well as a third-year student Arslan Yagshynazarov.

At the concert, Arslan presented Sonatina for piano. This work is written using non-traditional composing writing techniques. At some point, unexpectedly for the listeners, Arslan began to play music not on the keys, but on the open strings of the piano, performing glissando on them (running his hand along all the strings to the right or left, as if playing a harp) and pizzicato (plucking the strings). When Arslan put his hand under the open lid of the piano, it seemed from the side that the young composer, in search of a melody, was trying to snatch it from the depths of the piano, steal it and, like Prometheus, bring it to people.

After that, Arslan announced to the guests in the hall that he had specially prepared a small gift for this day in the form of the song “Without You”, which he himself sang and played, and, by the way, he also wrote the words himself. Later, recalling this song, he joked in a musical way, saying that he was its "whole author", drawing parallels with the durations of half and whole notes.

Just like Kerimguly Garovov, there is a fifth-year student among the students of the People's Artist of Turkmenistan, composer Danatar Khydyrov, who will soon set off on a free creative voyage. But besides him, fourth-year students Tyashliev Perman and Gulanov Yazgeldy comprehend the subtleties of composer's mastery in the maestro's class.

At the concert, Yazgeldy presented a romance to the words of Gurbannazar Ezizov "Sen geldiňde". The young composer did not accidentally choose the poems of the famous Turkmen poet. He also subtly feels the beauty of the surrounding world in all its diversity, as sincere, kind, open and intelligent as Gurbannazar Ezizov was and as remembered by his contemporaries.

A student of the People's Artist of Turkmenistan, composer Bayramdurdy Khudainazarov, fourth-year student Begmurad Khudaiberdiev presented to the audience his vocal and instrumental work on the verses of Makhtumkuli "Başdan dogrusy" for a singer, gijak, electric dutar and piano. Readers of ORIENT are already familiar with it. It was his song “Türkmeniň” to the verses of Magtymguly translated into Korean that was taken as a “gift” by the Turkmen delegation to Korea, where the Days of Turkmen Culture were held.

The composition that he prepared for this concert was distinguished by an extraordinary composition of performers. The young composer compared two types of sound - academic (piano and vocalist) and traditional (dutar and gidzhak). It turned out to be an interesting musical symbiosis.

Another student of Bayramdurdy Khudainazarov, third-year student Nurmuhammet Jomartov, presented the audience with the piano piece “Scherzo”. The talented young composer captured the essence of this genre, translated as “joke”. The piece is filled with youthful enthusiasm, bright harmonies, catchy melodic turns and interesting rhythmic combinations.

The honored worker of arts of Turkmenistan, composer Sukhan Tuyliev teaches fifth-year student Saparmurat Bailyev and Khandurdy Ataev, who entered the conservatory last summer. Despite this, Khandurdy is already the author of several works. One of them is a piece for piano "Remembrance". Listening to this composition, you begin to understand that it is inspired by love for native spaces, for everything that causes warmth in the soul. Saparmurat's composition for violin and piano entitled "Passion" demonstrated a complex range of feelings that only a passionate soul is capable of.

Composer Aina Shirova has a second-year student, Chary Amanniyazov. He also previously studied with the associate professor of the department, composer Jeren Kurbanklycheva, who developed in him a musical taste, the ability to properly build the fabric of a composition, as well as many subtleties of the composer's profession.

Listeners got acquainted with his romance "Autumn". In this work, Chary, whom everyone knows as a cheerful and good-natured guy, opened up from a completely different side. The melody of his romance is lyrical, dreamy and at the same time with a little melancholy.

At the end of the concert, the Head of the Department of Composition and Instrumentation Kerimguly Garovov made a solemn speech, summing up all the events of the past week. He thanked the students, teachers and friends of the department for joining the organization of this large and full of content event.
