Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry Demands Kyiv Take Measures Against Disinformation on Ukrainian TV Channel
08.07.2025 | 21:25 |The Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan has issued a strong statement, protesting against the "tendentious reports disseminated by Ukrainian media." In particular, this concerns the information that was broadcast on July 8 on the Ukrainian TV channel FREEDOM, which concerned "the alleged 'closedness' of Turkmenistan in the context of access to the Internet."
In its statement, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan expresses "extreme misunderstanding" regarding the right of representatives of the Ukrainian channel to disseminate such information, "who have no real idea about modern Turkmenistan, have never visited our country, and also have no contacts with representatives of its state and public structures, with their colleagues - Turkmen journalists."
The Turkmen side emphasizes that this is not the first time that the FREEDOM TV channel "disinforms its audience, transmitting deliberately implausible and distorted information about Turkmenistan."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs draws attention to the fact that such actions are taking place "against the backdrop of many years of economic and humanitarian support provided by the Turkmen side to the Ukrainian people throughout the entire period of Turkmenistan's independence." As an example, significant volumes of natural gas have been supplied to Ukraine for many years since the 1990s, as well as numerous projects worth billions of US dollars in various industries implemented by Ukrainian companies in Turkmenistan.
Emphasizing the importance of reciprocity in relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan stated: "In connection with the above, representatives of some Ukrainian media outlets should remember the high significance and value of such a truism as: "good is repaid with good," and not vice versa."
Based on the current situation, the Turkmen side demands that the relevant Ukrainian government agencies responsible for information policy "take the necessary measures in accordance with Ukrainian legislation to prevent the repetition of the above-mentioned facts in the future."
